What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine is the oldest established system of healing in the world. It works in harmony with the body, supporting its own healing capacity in order to restore good health.
It is a holistic system of healing viewing each person as an individual not a disease process therefore the treatment is tailored for you, Remember you are more than a disease...
Modern herbal medicine combines the traditional use of herbs with scientific research, adapting its approach to the 21st Century.
The remedies employed are prepared from whole plants as nature intended. And therefore are unlikely to cause unwanted side effects.
What to expect from the treatment
The first consultation will last approximately 1 hour. This enables the practitioner to gain a clear understanding of your state of health. You will be asked questions about your current and previous health states. Lifestyle and dietary habits are also discussed. Any necessary physical examinations will be carried out with your approval. Treatment usually comprises a mixture of herbs in the form of tinctures (alcoholic extractions of herbs) to be taken internally. Where appropriate, patients are given capsules, teas, lotions or creams. Recommendations regarding lifestyle and diet are usually advised.
An appointment is recommended two to three weeks after the initial visit and at monthly intervals thereafter. These appointments allow the patient and practitioner to discuss the progression of their treatment. The herbalist may then alter the prescription to the patients changing needs. The number of visits varies depending upon the requirements of the patient.
